Growing up in a city full of style

I grew up in Leiden, a beautiful and lively city in the Netherlands. When people think about fashion, they often think of big cities like Paris, Milan, or New York. But for me, fashion inspiration started right at home. Leiden might be a smaller city than Paris or Milan, but the people there have an incredible sense of style. Just walking through the streets, you see people who clearly put effort into what they wear.

It’s the little things that make outfits stand out, layered clothes, statement shoes, colorful accessories, and sunglasses. These details give each look its own personality.

Effortless Dutch Style

One thing I always noticed about people in Leiden is how confident they are with their outfits. Many people dress in a way that feels effortless but still very stylish. You see bold colors, cool jackets, vintage pieces, and of course sunglasses, even when the sun is barely out. It’s common to see someone biking through the city wearing a perfectly styled outfit like they are on their way to a fashion shoot.

 

Dutch fashion often feels practical but creative at the same time. People mix comfortable clothes with statement pieces. A simple outfit suddenly becomes interesting because of a bright coat, unique sneakers, or the way someone layers their clothes.

Finding inspiration in everyday moments

Some of my biggest fashion inspiration actually came from normal days in Leiden. Walking through the city center, passing the canals, sitting at a café, or biking through the narrow streets, I would constantly see outfits that caught my attention. Sometimes it was the way someone combined colors. Other times it was how confident someone looked in something bold that most people wouldn’t dare to wear.

 

These small moments made me realize that fashion is everywhere. It’s not only on runways or in magazines. It’s in the people around you and in the streets you walk through every day.

From Leiden to my own style

Looking back, Leiden played a huge role in shaping how I see fashion today. The city taught me that style doesn’t have to be perfect or follow strict rules. It can be creative, bold, relaxed, and personal all at the same time.

 

Even now, whenever I think about fashion inspiration, I think about those simple walks through Leiden. A city where people ride their bikes, wear bold colors, throw on sunglasses, and somehow make everyday outfits look effortlessly cool. It’s where my love for fashion really started.
